People have been always saying you have to be tall to play basketball. I would guess this came from shorter players that were never good to play basketball or people that were intimidated by the taller NBA players. I think people worry about this the most when thinking to play a sport is because there is almost nothing to do, to change this about yourself. Clearly in the NBA height matters whether you are a center or a point gaurd.
Height can help with a lot of key attributes in basketball but I think your reach (arm span) is more important and your hand span. You could be a shorter player than your opponent but have a longer reach and could easily dominate him/her. This could help in rebounding, layup/dunking, dribbling, blocking, and stealing just to name a few. Giannis Antetokounmpo a young NBA player for the Milwaukee Bucks is a freak of nature, which is exactly why he is called Greek Freak, he is also a prime example of the ultimate basketball body. He is 6 11 who plays small forward, the average hieght for a SF is 6 7, but his height is the height of an average center! He is quick and agile and his 7 3 arm span also adds into his freakishly athletic body. The thing is with him is that he doesn't quite have the skills to adapt to his amazing body but he is still young and has potential.
We can see that hieght is important but you need skill to add with this or you become basically useless on the court. If you are 5 10 or taller than you shouldn't complain about not being able to make the NBA because there have been more than 20 players that have made it. There is one notably player currently in the NBA, Isaiah Thomas, who is averaging 20+ points and is easily the best player on the Boston Celtics, my favorite team. He stands at only 5 9 and has quite the skill to make him such an exceptional player. I know you cannot change your height but two things you can change is your athleticism and skill so there is no excuse to why you aren't a better player.
